April 29, 2018

This will be our 16th week in Genesis at Park Church, a series discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare this week:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 28–31.

Themes of brokenness, family discord, and the unmerited blessing of God continue in our text this week. The narrative of Jacob, Leah, and Rachel raises a lot of questions and makes one ask (perhaps again) why God would use broken people to bring about His plan of redemption. However, it’s in this that we see the most common theme here: God is the only one who will bring about His plan.

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:

CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 63:1–4, Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):

To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,
the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners.
the Conqueror of the grave, the resurrection and the life.
Welcome!

Holy Spirit (Bryan Torwalt, Katie Torwalt arr. Jesus Culture)
Tis So Sweet (William James Kirkpatrick, Louisa M. R. Stead)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Worship Sourcebook:

Merciful God, You pardon all who truly repent and turn to You.
We humbly confess our sins and ask Your mercy.
We have not loved You with a pure heart,
nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves.
We have not done justice, loved kindness,
or walked humbly with You, our God.
Have mercy on us, O God, in Your loving-kindness.
In Your great compassion,
cleanse us from our sin.
Create in us a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within us.
Do not cast us from Your presence,
or take Your Holy Spirit from us.
Restore to us the joy of Your salvation
and sustain us with Your bountiful Spirit
through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Give Us Clean Hands (Charlie Hall)

No Longer Slaves (Joel Case, Jonathan David Hesler, Brian Johnson)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Romans 8:14–17a

GREETING, SERMON, & COMMUNION
RESPONSE: Song & Prayer

In Tenderness (Garvey, Gordon, Walton arr. Brian Eichelberger)
Yes And Amen (Anthony Brown, Chris McClarney, Nate Moore)

We’re in our 15th week of Genesis at Park Church, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare this week:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 25–27.

These three chapters of Genesis contain some familiar themes: the healing of barrenness, promises of God multiply a people group, and even a self-preserving lie about a wife being a sister. There’s also a confusing narrative about a stolen birthright and blessing—what’s happening here? As we see God unfold his plan through the Patriarchs, we notice another recurring theme: blessing the broken.

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:

CALL TO WORSHIP: Ephesians 1:3–6, Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):

To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,
the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners.
the Conqueror of the grave, the resurrection and the life.
Welcome!

Grace Alone (Dustin Kensrue)
Doxology (Amen) (Louis Bourgeois, Thomas Ken, Phil Wickham)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From Every Season Prayers by Scotty Smith:

Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
we praise and bless You for the great salvation
You have freely given us in the gospel.
We find great peace in the finished work of Jesus.
We find great joy in the ongoing work of Your Spirit.
We find great hope in the future blessings of heaven.

As Your beloved daughters and sons, we confess our sins,
longing for the day we will be made perfect in love.
Forgive us for being more irritable than charitable;
quicker to rush to judgment than to run into your presence;
and far more inclined to pout than to pray.

Forgive us for demanding too much of others
and expecting too little from You.
Forgive us for doubting that You really love us as much as You say you do.
Forgive us and free us, in Jesus’ name,
we humbly pray. Amen.

Reckless Love (Cory Asbury, Caleb Culver, Ran Jackson)

His Mercy Is More (Matt Boswell, Matt Papa)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Jude 24–25

GREETING, SERMON, & COMMUNION
RESPONSE: Song & Prayer

Rock of Ages (Augustus Montague Toplady arr. Sojourn)
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) (John Newton, Chris Tomlin)

It’s week 14 Genesis at Park Church, where we’re discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare for this week:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 24.

As our narrative continues, where God acts to show kindness and favor again and again, we see how knowing God leads to trusting God, which leads to hope in God.

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:

CALL TO WORSHIP: 1 Peter 1:3, Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):

To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,

Righteous God,
You have crowned Jesus Christ as Lord of all.
We confess that we have not bowed before Him
and are slow to acknowledge His rule.
We give allegiance to the powers of this world
and fail to be governed by justice and love.
In Your mercy, forgive us.
Raise us to acclaim Him as ruler of all,
that we may be loyal ambassadors,
obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen

O Fount Of Love (Matt Boswell, Matt Papa)

April 8, 2018

We’re in week 13 of Genesis at Park Church, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world.

Additionally, we’re now in the season of Eastertide, the 50 days after Easter where the resurrection of Christ is commemorated by extended celebration. We’ve updated The Christian Year with some new resources for reflecting and rejoicing during the season, you can find those here!

Here’s how you can prepare for this Sunday at Park:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 22.

Abraham, a man who has failed on several occasions to fully trust the Lord, now faithfully obeys Him even within an inch of offering his long-awaited son Isaac as a sacrifice. Just before this moment, Isaac asks his father where the lamb is for the offering. His confusion is understandable. Abraham’s response is Biblically transcendent—”God will provide for Himself the lamb.” Although God steps in at the last minute to keep Abraham from actually sacrificing Isaac, the day is foreshadowed where God would not step in for His beloved Son, accepting Jesus’ offering as the perfect and final sacrifice.

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:

CALL TO WORSHIP: John 1:29, Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):

To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,
the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners.
Welcome!

Before The Throne (Charitie Lees Bancroft, arr. The Modern Post)
O Fount Of Love (Matt Boswell, Matt Papa)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Pursuit of God by A. W. Tozer:

Father, I want to know Thee, but my coward heart fears to give up its toys. I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from Thee the terror of the parting. I come trembling, but I do come. Please root from my heart all those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my living self, so that Thou mayest enter and dwell there without a rival. Then shalt Thou make the place of Thy feet glorious. Then shall my heart have no need of the sun to shine in it, for Thyself wilt be the light of it, and there shall be no night there. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Good Good Father (Anthony Brown, Pat Barrett)

It Is Finished—Part 2 (Hark, the Voice of Love and Mercy) (Jonathan Evans, William Owen)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: John 3:16–17

GREETING, SERMON, & COMMUNION
RESPONSE: Song & Prayer

It Is Well (Horatio G. Spafford, Philip P. Bliss)
Jesus Paid It All (Elvina Hall, Kristen Stanfill)

April 1, 2018—Easter

This Sunday is Easter Sunday, and we’re excited to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with you at Park Church. Here are a couple ways to prepare for our service together:

1. Read through our text, Philippians 3:7–11.

All the hopes and expectations of Christians are realized in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from dead. This day is the culmination of all that the Gospel is about, causing us to desire with Paul to “know Him and the power of His resurrection.”

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:

BAPTISM & PROCESSIONAL

Roll Away The Stone (Latifah Alattas, David Wilton)
Jesus Paid It All (Elvina Hall, Kristen Stanfill)
Break Every Chain (Will Reagan)

CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 57:8–9, Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):

To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,

To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,
the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners,
the Conqueror of the grave, the resurrection and the life.

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today (Charles Wesley)
O Praise The Name (Anástasis) (Benjamin Hastings, Marty Sampson, Dean Ussher)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Worship Sourcebook:

Almighty God, You have raised Jesus from the grave
and crowned Him Lord of all.
We confess that we have not bowed before Him
or acknowledged His rule in our lives.
We have gone along with the way of the world and failed to give Him glory.
Forgive us and raise us from sin,
that we may be Your faithful people,
obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who rules the world and is head of the church, His body. Amen.

Nothing But The Blood (Robert Lowry arr. Page CXVI)

BENEDICTION

March 25, 2018

It’s Palm Sunday and our eleventh week of Genesis at Park Church, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare for worship:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 17–18.

It’s been 25 years since God told Abram to leave his country and family and settle in Canaan, promising that Abram’s descendants would fill the land. At this point, while Abram has selfishly fathered Ishmael by his wife’s servant Hagar, Sarai has remained barren and is now closing in on age 90. After thirteen years of silence, God appears again and invites Abram into a new way of life—and confirms again His covenant.

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:

CALL TO WORSHIP: Matthew 11:28–30, Lenten Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):

To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,
the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners.
Welcome!

King Of My Heart (John Mark McMillan, Sarah McMillan)
O Praise The Name (Anástasis) (Benjamin Hastings, Marty Sampson, Dean Ussher)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Worship Sourcebook:

Lord, you have called us to worship You. We gladly gather! As we praise You, though, our own inadequacy reminds us of how we have broken our relationship with You. Because we have sinned against You, even our worship fails to be what it could. We often treat it as a show. We simply go through motions, failing to recognize that You want to engage us deeply. Renew us, we pray, according to Your steadfast love. Remind us of Your covenant faithfulness and have mercy on us in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Nothing But The Blood (Robert Lowry arr. Citizens & Saints)

Through And Through/Set A Fire (Will Reagan)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: From Romans 5:8, Colossians 1:13–14, Romans 5:1, NIV:

God demonstrates His own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

GREETING, SERMON, & COMMUNION
RESPONSE: Song & Prayer

Great Is Thy Faithfulness (Thomas Obediah Chisholm, William Marion Runyan)
Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) (Paul Baloche, Brenton Brown)

March 18, 2018

This is the tenth week of Genesis at Park Church, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare for worship:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 13–21.

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 18-19 stands as a disturbingly dark narrative in the midst of a longer section about God’s gracious promise to restore the world. Why is this story here in Genesis and what does it have to do with God’s promise? The story serves as a declaration that God’s unbreakable promise to restore the world includes both the just judgment of sin and the merciful deliverance of those who turn to Him.

Welcome!

Come Thou Fount (Robert Robinson, John Wyeth arr. Shane & Shane)
Yet Even Now (Joel Limpic)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Worship Sourcebook:

Most merciful God
whose Son, Jesus Christ,
was tempted in every way,
yet was without sin,
we confess before You our own sinfulness;
we have hungered after that which does not satisfy;
we have compromised with evil;
we have doubted Your power to protect us.
Forgive our lack of faith; have mercy on our weakness.
Restore in us such trust and love
that we may walk in Your ways and delight in doing Your will. Amen.

His Mercy Is More (Matt Boswell, Matt Papa)

Reckless Love (Cory Asbury, Caleb Culver, Ran Jackson)

We’re in our ninth week of Genesis, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world.

As a quick reminder, we’re still in the season of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter where we make our hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ passion and celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. As you pray and worship during Lent, check out The Christian Year for some resources we’ve created and curated—we’ve finished and added a new song for you since the beginning of Lent! In the meantime, here are a couple ways you can prepare for this Sunday at Park:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 12–23.

Keeping promises and commitments is a perpetual challenge. Our world is always full of “new” options and believable opportunities for increasing our potential. There usually appears to be greener grass that we could run toward instead of what we’ve already said “yes” to. This week in Genesis 15, we get a glimpse of how God, at all costs, keeps His commitments. Period.

Welcome!

Great Is Thy Faithfulness (Thomas Obediah Chisholm, William Marion Runyan)
Grace Alone (Dustin Kensrue)

CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Worship Sourcebook:

Merciful God, You made us in Your image,
with a mind to know You, a heart to love You,
and a will to serve You.

But our knowledge is imperfect,
our love inconstant, our obedience incomplete.
Day by day, we fail to grow in Your likeness.
In Your tender love, forgive us through Jesus Christ, our Lord, amen.

Oh God (Zach Bolen)

One Thing Remains (Christa Black, Brian Johnson, Jeremy Riddle)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Lamentations 3:22–25

GREETING, SERMON, & COMMUNION
RESPONSE: Song & Prayer

Reckless Love (Cory Asbury, Caleb Culver, Ran Jackson)
Yes And Amen (Anthony Brown, Chris McClarney, Nate Moore)

March 4, 2018

It’s the eighth week of our Genesis series at Park, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare this week:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 12.

Against the backdrop of the Fall and the consequential destruction of the world (Genesis 3–11), God makes a promise to Abraham that shines as a beacon of hope. As we read the text, we see two things that show us how God pursues us by sovereign grace: First, God’s promise to His people is unconditional. Second, feeble faith does not threaten God’s promise.

Welcome!

All Creatures Of Our God And King (William Henry Draper, St. Francis of Assisi)
King Of My Heart (John Mark McMillan, Sarah McMillan)

CONFESSION OF SIN: Ephesians 2:1–3

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Ephesians 2:4–10

Yet Even Now (Joel Limpic)
Yes And Amen (Anthony Brown, Chris McClarney, Nate Moore)

GREETING, SERMON, & COMMUNION
RESPONSE: Song & Prayer

It Is Well (Horatio G. Spafford, Philip P. Bliss)
Jesus Is Better (Aaron Ivey, Brett Land)

We’re in our seventh week of Genesis at Park Church, discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world.

Additionally, this is week two of Lent, the 40-day season leading up to Easter where we make our hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ passion and celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. As you pray and worship during Lent, check out The Christian Year for some resources we’ve created and curated for you. As for this Sunday, here are a couple ways you can prepare:

1. Read through our text, Genesis 10–11.

Humans are designed for community and culture-building; it’s part of what God made us to do. But our sinful tendency is to build cities and kingdoms that glorify ourselves instead of our Maker. In short, we seek to make a name for ourselves, finding security and purpose apart from God. In turn, our cities and cultures shape our desires and actions, spiraling us further into rebellion. Seeing our brokenness and confusion, God had mercy. Where we tried to establish our own name, He has made a name for Himself through the Offspring of Abraham—Jesus Christ. Willingly suffering at the hands of our godless desires, Jesus established a Holy City through His broken body and shed blood. He has now invited us to live and flourish as citizens of the City of God.

2. Read, pray and sing through the service:
