This will be our 16th week in Genesis at Park Church, a series discussing God’s foundational worldview for His people and their purpose in His world. Here’s how you can prepare this week:
1. Read through our text, Genesis 28–31.
Themes of brokenness, family discord, and the unmerited blessing of God continue in our text this week. The narrative of Jacob, Leah, and Rachel raises a lot of questions and makes one ask (perhaps again) why God would use broken people to bring about His plan of redemption. However, it’s in this that we see the most common theme here: God is the only one who will bring about His plan.
2. Read, pray and sing through the service:
CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 63:1–4, Welcome (From Immanuel Nashville):
To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Savior,
This church opens wide her doors
with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
the Ally of His enemies, the Defender of the guilty,
the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners.
the Conqueror of the grave, the resurrection and the life.
Welcome!
Holy Spirit (Bryan Torwalt, Katie Torwalt arr. Jesus Culture)
Tis So Sweet (William James Kirkpatrick, Louisa M. R. Stead)
CONFESSION OF SIN: From The Worship Sourcebook:
Merciful God, You pardon all who truly repent and turn to You.
We humbly confess our sins and ask Your mercy.
We have not loved You with a pure heart,
nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves.
We have not done justice, loved kindness,
or walked humbly with You, our God.
Have mercy on us, O God, in Your loving-kindness.
In Your great compassion,
cleanse us from our sin.
Create in us a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within us.
Do not cast us from Your presence,
or take Your Holy Spirit from us.
Restore to us the joy of Your salvation
and sustain us with Your bountiful Spirit
through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Give Us Clean Hands (Charlie Hall)
No Longer Slaves (Joel Case, Jonathan David Hesler, Brian Johnson)
