Aching for Advent:
The minor prophets served the people of God during a time when they were experiencing an unraveling of their lives and livelihood as a result of unfaithfulness in their covenant with God. The people were aching—aching from the pain they were experiencing and aching for God to intervene, bring them home, and restore His Kingdom. The prophets spoke to these pains by calling the people to return to the Lord and to trust Him, following His ways as they wait for Him to fulfill His promises through a coming King.
The fulfillment of those promises began during the first advent of Jesus. He came into the world to announce the arrival of His Kingdom, making a way for us to enter His Kingdom through faith in His redemptive work. However, though we experience aspects of this Kingdom now, we live in a world where the Kingdom has not yet fully arrived. We continue to ache from the pains of the world. We ache for God to fulfill His promises and complete His redemptive work.
God has promised to bring justice to an unjust world.
He has promised to bring freedom to a captive world.
He has promised to make a home for a homesick world.
He’s promised to do all this through a Savior King.
As the minor prophets helped the people of Israel prepare for and await the Messiah, they can likewise teach us how to stand between the first coming of Christ and His future return. Join us in prayer that, in this season, we will learn how to let the aching of our present age increase our hope in Christ and His future return.
New to Advent?
This season of the church calendar includes the four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent means “coming” or “arrival” and is a season both for remembering Jesus' first coming at Christmas and also longing for His return. Learn more about Advent and why Park Church observes the church calendar here at our liturgy page.

Advent Weekly Prayer

Every Advent, we meet during the lunch hour on Wednesdays to sing, pray, and cultivate hunger and longing for Christ. Many also choose to fast lunch or more on these Wednesdays. If fasting is new for you, you can read more about why we practice this discipline here.
Advent Hymn Sing
Happened Thursday, December 14
Each year, we gather as a church family to sing the beloved hymns of Advent and Christmas and read the story together. This tradition helps us prepare and awaken our hearts to the tension and beauty of the season of Advent. All are invited, and kids are welcome to wear pajamas!
