When we are suffering, it can be incredibly difficult to grieve and lament during the season of the year that those around us want to celebrate. On one of the darkest days of the year, we gather as the body of Christ. In God’s presence, to pour out our grief, to release our anger, to face our emptiness, to feel our pain, and to know that through it all, God keeps company with us. In our very present darkness - He is here. In our depression, He is here. In our disappointment and in our longings, He is here. Surrounded by our shattered dreams, and steeped low in the depths of painful memories, He is here - Emmanuel, God ‘with us’.
